Boy Scout Troop 217 is Chartered by St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic Church in Bakesfield, Ca. The Troop has actively been in existence to serve the youth of Bakersfield through programs based upon integrity, morality, spirituality and self confidence. Troop 217 Scouts run the Troop with light guidance by parents and the Boy Scouts of America. The boys are responsible to plan meetings, campouts and activities. The boys are overseen by an active committee of volunteer parents working with St. Phillips and the community at large, allowing the boys to experience and learn about their world and how they can be the difference. 4.The eagle and shield stand for freedom and a Scout's readiness to defend that freedom.
5.The scroll bearing the Scout Motto is turned up at the ends as a reminder that a Scout smiles as he does his duty.
6.The knot at the bottom of the scroll is a reminder of the Scout Slogan , "Do a Good Turn Daily".
